Mid-week non-conference games normally aren't regarded as "must-wins" in college baseball, but Nebraska's Tuesday night game against Creighton was different. The Huskers traveled to Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha having lost six of their last seven games -- including four straight -- and desperately needing a win to turn the tide heading into this weekend's key Big 12 series with Oklahoma.

The Huskers gave coach Mike Anderson almost exactly what he was hoping for: The offense got untracked with 12 hits and Nebraska got solid pitching from starter Charlie Shirek. True, the ninth inning was a little more dramatic than Anderson would've liked as Creighton's Zach Daeges flirted with what would've been a game-winning grand slam off closer Brett Jensen, but Nebraska got it done in the end.

Will it be enough to help the Huskers pull out of their tailspin in Big 12 play? That's difficult to say, but you've got to like Nebraska's chances in its series with OU because the Huskers will be back in the friendly confines of Haymarket Park. Don't be surprised to see Nebraska record a sweep of its own this weekend.
